Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi on Monday chaired a meeting of all the deputy commissioners, municipal commissioners and officers of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) at his office.
SSWMB Managing Director Tariq Nizamani informed the meeting about the collection points and landfill sites for waste disposal. He said the SSWMB had finalised a contingency plan for the timely disposal of animal waste during Eidul Azha. This year, around 97 collection points had been established across the city, and all preparations were complete at the Jam Chakro and Gond Pass landfill sites for burial of the collected offal in trenches.
He said animal waste would be collected door to door and transported to the collection points via vehicles from where SSWMB staff would transfer it to landfill sites using dumpers. A total of nine trenches had been dug up at the landfill sites for waste disposal, he explained, adding that of the nine trenches, four were at Jam Chakro, three at Gond Pass and two at Sharafi Goth. Altogether, the nine trenches would have the capacity to dispose of 100,000 tonnes of waste, the meeting was told.
