I would like to draw attention to the inadequate warning systems and preparedness measures before heavy rainfall in Karachi. Every year, sudden downpours result in urban flooding, traffic congestion, power outages and damage to property. Unfortunately, many citizens remain unaware of the severity of the weather conditions until significant disruptions have already occurred. Although meteorological departments often issue forecasts, these warnings do not always reach the general public effectively. Timely alerts through television, radio, social media and mobile phone notifications can help people take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary risks.

Local authorities should also ensure proper drainage systems, emergency response plans and public awareness campaigns before the monsoon season. Effective coordination between weather agencies and municipal departments is essential to minimise losses and protect public safety. I hope the concerned authorities will strengthen early warning mechanisms and improve disaster preparedness for the benefit of all citizens.
