Rawalpindi : All the seven Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals (THQs) and 10 Rural Health Centres (RHCs) in the district would provide only emergency medical services to patients during Eid holidays (Tuesday to Thursday) while the outpatient departments of the healthcare facilities would not be operational during the holidays.

According to the District Health Authority (DHA), the emergency medical services would be available to the public in THQ hospitals round the clock, however elective surgeries would not be performed during Eid holidays.

Surgical procedures required at the emergency departments of the hospitals and at gynaecology departments would be performed as per routine, said District Focal Person for Media Dr. Waqar Ahmed while talking to ‘The News’ on Sunday.

He added that special counters at the THQ hospitals and RHCs have been established to deal with patients having any heat-related disorders including heat stroke as the Met Office had issued a heat wave warning. All these counters would be operational round the clock during Eid holidays, he said.

He claimed that the control room established at the DHA would monitor the working of the THQ Hospitals and RHCs during the holidays. He added that the deputy district health officers would monitor working of the healthcare facilities in their relevant tehsils during Eid holidays and in case a patient is not facilitated at the THQ hospital or RHC properly, he or she may complain on phone numbers already displayed in the healthcare facilities. To a query, he said the OPDs are not operating at the THQ hospitals and RHCs during Eid holidays however every patient reaching any of the healthcare facilities would be attended at the emergency department.

Consultants in THQ hospitals would remain available to patients physically from 8am to 2pm while they would remain on call round the clock from Tuesday to Thursday, said Dr. Waqar.

He added that to ensure proper treatment for the general public, sufficient quantities of essential medicines have already been arranged at the THQ Hospitals and RHCs.

CEO Health and Population Rawalpindi Dr Ehsan Ghani appealed to the general public to take extraordinary preventive measures while handling sacrificial animals to avoid Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF). Duty rosters of doctors and medical staff who will serve at THQ hospitals and RHCs during Eid holidays have already been distributed, he said.
