Islamabad : WWF-Pakistan has expressed deep concern over a recent incident of illegal hunting and wildlife abuse in the federal capital, warning that Pakistan’s fragile ecosystems remain under persistent pressure from poaching and snaring.

It insisted such incidents highlight the continuing threats to native wildlife and underscore the urgent need for stronger protection and enforcement measures.

WWF-Pakistan appreciated the swift action of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board and law enforcement agencies, saying their timely intervention led to the detection of illegal activity and the arrest of those involved.

"Their timely intervention highlights the critical importance of continued vigilance, monitoring and enforcement to safeguard our natural ecosystems. We hope that due legal process will be followed in accordance with relevant wildlife protection laws, and that all such cases are dealt with firmly under the law," it said in a statement.

The organisation also urged the Ministry of Climate Change to fully empower the IWMB with adequate staff and resources. It said this was essential to prevent hunting and habitat degradation before they occur.

"Protecting wildlife is a shared responsibility, and sustained enforcement and accountability are essential to deter future violations and ensure the long-term conservation of Pakistan’s biodiversity," it said.
