The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has said the Sindh government has ushered in a new era of development and public welfare across the province through massive investments in infrastructure, health, education, energy and social protection programmes.

In a statement issued on Saturday, PPP Central Information Secretary Shazia Marri said the completion of landmark infrastructure projects, particularly the Shahrah-e-Bhutto project in Karachi, had opened a new chapter in urban development.

She described Shahrah-e-Bhutto as a game changer for Karachi’s economy, traffic management system and industrial activities, saying the mega project would significantly improve connectivity and economic mobility in the country’s commercial hub.

Shazia maintained that after the passage of the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the PPP successfully translated provincial autonomy into practical public development initiatives. She said Sindh had emerged as a model of financial discipline and governance.

Highlighting the performance of the Sindh Revenue Board, she said the institution achieved record tax collection of more than Rs306 billion during the fiscal year 2024-25, outperforming other provinces in revenue generation.

Referring to rehabilitation efforts after the devastating floods, the PPP leader said that under the vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Sindh government had launched the world’s largest housing project for flood victims.

She said work on the construction of 2.1 million houses for flood-affected families was progressing rapidly, with millions of people being provided permanent shelter and improved living conditions.

The PPP leader further stated that billions of rupees had been spent in Karachi on bridges, underpasses, roads, sewerage systems and drinking water supply schemes aimed at modernising the city’s civic infrastructure.

The Sindh government had also expanded free health care services through leading institutions such as National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation, along with the establishment of modern hospitals across the province, she added.

In the education sector, Shazia said, new universities, schools and IT programmes were being introduced to create better opportunities for the younger generation and equip them with modern skills.

The PPP spokesperson also highlighted the importance of the Thar Coal project, saying it was playing a vital role in meeting Pakistan’s growing energy needs. She added that electricity generated from Thar coal was being added to the national grid and had become a milestone for the country’s economy.

According to the PPP leader, the Sindh government had invested billions of rupees in infrastructure, health care, education and energy sectors, while welfare initiatives such as the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Hari Card and labour card schemes had benefited millions of citizens.
