Pakistan Rangers Sindh and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Police carried out a joint operation in New Karachi and arrested a highly wanted extortion suspect identified as Zahid in an injured condition, according to a Rangers spokesperson on Saturday.
Officials said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the arrested suspect. He, along with his accomplices, was allegedly involved in multiple extortion activities across various areas of Karachi. The spokesperson said the gang had also included a woman in its extortion network. To conceal their identities, the suspects allegedly used a burqa-clad woman to deliver extortion slips to victims.
Recently, the accused and his accomplices reportedly delivered extortion notes to Sadiq Traders and Hyderabadi Sweets and Bakers in New Karachi. The incidents were clearly captured in CCTV footage. Officials said raids were being conducted to arrest the suspect’s remaining accomplices.
