Islamabad : The Directorate General of Special Education (DGSE), an attached department of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT), successfully concluded a one-week orientation training program for 60 newly inducted outsourced professionals and allied staff under the theme “Strengthening Service Delivery of Special Education Centres through HR Outsourcing.”
The orientation program was designed, organized, and conducted by the National Institute of Special Education (NISE) to prepare the newly inducted professionals prior to their deployment at DGSE service delivery centres. The initiative aimed to equip participants with institutional understanding, professional ethics, practical exposure, and specialized competencies required for effective service delivery in the field of special education.
To address the growing human resource requirements of DGSE, mandated to provide rehabilitation, education, and vocational training services to children and persons with disabilities in the Federal Capital, the Ministry outsourced the hiring of qualified professionals and support staff. The newly inducted workforce includes Special Educators, Clinical Psychologists, Audiologists, Speech Therapy Fellows, Physiotherapy Fellows, Behaviour Therapy Fellows, Medical Officers, Junior Educators, Assistive Technology Specialists, Mobility Assistants, Orthopaedic Professionals, Optometrists, Nutritionists, Social Services Officers, Sports Teachers, Medical Assistants, Vocational Trainers, Receptionists, Drivers, Attendants, and other allied staff.
Currently, nearly 2,000 children and persons with diverse disabilities, ranging from severe to profound levels, are enrolled in the five special education institutions operating under DGSE in Islamabad. These institutions provide educational, therapeutic, rehabilitation, and vocational services aimed at promoting independence, participation, inclusion, and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
The opening session of the orientation, held on May 18, commenced with the National Anthem presented in Pakistan Sign Language (PSL). Children with special needs enrolled in DGSE institutions warmly welcomed the participants through instrumental performances, national and folk songs, and interactive reflections expressing gratitude to the Ministry leadership for promoting accessible education and rehabilitation opportunities.
The students particularly acknowledged the contributions of Secretary MoFEPT, Mr. Nadeem Mahbub, recently honoured with the Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his dedicated efforts toward advancing accessible and inclusive education in Pakistan.
The students also paid tribute to former Director General DGSE, Captain (Retd.) Asif Iqbal, for his transformative and collaborative leadership during the past one year and four months under the vision of MoFEPT.
