Islamabad: With temperatures already soaring in most parts of the country, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of extreme weather conditions until May 31, including Eid days, and urged people to take steps to prevent heat-related health issues.

The NDMA issued a fresh advisory calling on authorities to accelerate preventive measures in vulnerable areas amid fears that prolonged high temperatures could increase health risks, disrupt daily life and place additional pressure on public services.

It also advised people to wear light-coloured and loose-fitting clothing to reduce heat absorption and improve ventilation in extreme temperatures. The NDMA asked authorities to ensure timely implementation of safety measures, especially provincial disaster management authorities to strengthen emergency preparedness and enhance public awareness campaigns in areas

most exposed to severe heat. People have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during peak daytime hours, stay hydrated, remain cautious while venturing outdoors and seek immediate medical assistance in case of symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue or difficulty breathing.

It also cautioned residents and travellers to mountainous and northern regions about possible weather-related disruptions and changing conditions in high-altitude areas.
