LAHORE : The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to ensure public safety, maintain law and order and protect the environment and human lives.

The orders were issued by the Secretary Home Punjab under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898. The Home Department spokesperson on Wednesday said that the restrictions have been imposed on four types of activities under Section 144 across Punjab from May 27 to June 2. Under the orders, burning of animal heads and trotters at public places, bathing in canals, rivers, streams and dams, dumping animal waste and offal into manholes, drains or canals and establishment of cattle markets or sale points at locations other than officially notified cattle markets have been banned across the province.

He added that such activities posed risks to public safety and health besides causing inconvenience and anxiety among citizens.

The spokesperson further clarified that no proscribed organisation would be allowed to collect sacrificial animal hides on Eid-ul-Azha. Only institutions registered with the Punjab Charity Commission would be permitted to receive sacrificial hides.

He said that district administrations and law enforcement agencies across Punjab had been directed to ensure strict implementation of the orders.
