LAHORE: Ameeruddin Medical College Principal Prof Dr Farooq Afzal has said that public awareness regarding preventive measures against different diseases is the most effective weapon to protect health.

Speaking at an awareness lecture on ‘Pulmonary TB’ organised by the Pediatrics Ward at Lahore General Hospital (LGH), Prof Farooq Afzal urged parents to provide children with a balanced diet, a clean environment and timely vaccination to ensure protection against infectious diseases like tuberculosis. The event was attended by doctors and health professionals, including renowned pediatrician Prof Yaqoob Qazi, Vice Principal Prof Nudrat Sohail, LGH MS Prof Faryad Hussain, Prof M Shahid, Prof Hassan Suleman Malik, Dr Hooria Rehman, and Dr Ayesha Iftikhar.

Prof Yaqoob Qazi highlighted the symptoms and modern treatment methods of pulmonary TB in children, adding that symptoms such as a continuous cough, persistent fever, weight loss and loss of appetite should never be ignored, as timely diagnosis forms the foundation of effective treatment. LGH MS Prof Faryad Hussain stressed that the national immunisation programme is the most effective tool to strengthen children's immunity and prevent the spread of infectious diseases across society. He concluded that awareness, prevention and timely medical intervention are the ultimate guarantee to a healthy society. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A where Prof Yaqoob Qazi addressed queries from the participants.
