ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was informed on Wednesday that despite assurances by the institutions concerned, related notifications, maps and other data had not been provided in the backdrop of the new Islamabad Local Government Ordinance, promulgated in January.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja chaired a meeting here on the conduct of local government elections in the ICT, as the term of the LG bodies had expired in February 2021. The CEC contended that if necessary, the matter would be taken up with the federal government at the appropriate level. He stressed that the data, notifications, maps, and amendments to the laws and rules required by the Election Commission should be provided immediately so that it can issue the schedule of delimitation and it is possible to hold elections in the federal capital.
