SUKKUR: Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, while addressing the inauguration ceremony of two new routes of the Peoples Bus Service in Khairpur Mirs on Tuesday, said that the day marks an important and joyous occasion for the people of Khairpur.
He stated that under the vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, President Asif Ali Zardari, Faryal Talpur and the Sindh chief minister, the Peoples Bus Service is being launched to provide affordable and comfortable transportation facilities to the citizens of Khairpur.
According a press release issued by the Divisional Directorate of Information Sukkur, Memon said the Pakistan Peoples Party has carried out historic development works during every tenure of its government and completed record public welfare projects in villages, talukas and districts across Sindh.
Despite these achievements, the party continues to face criticism and media trials, although the scale of development in Sindh remains unmatched. The senior minister said the Special Economic Zone in Khairpur district was established during the tenure of former chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah. He further said the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences, the only hospital in Pakistan providing lung and liver transplant facilities, is a matter of pride for the people of Khairpur.
He remarked that the people of Khairpur are fortunate to have sincere public representatives and added that the district has consistently expressed confidence in the Pakistan Peoples Party by electing its candidates with public support. He said that had the PPP representatives failed to serve the people, they would not have achieved electoral success in their constituencies.
Memon said two new routes of the Peoples Bus Service are being launched in Khairpur today. Despite rising global fuel prices, the Sindh government is providing modern air-conditioned buses to the public at subsidized fares. He said the provincial government is paying part of each passenger’s fare to reduce the financial burden on commuters.
He announced that additional buses would also be allocated for Khairpur under the new transport scheme, while Pink Bus Service and Pink Scooty Service would soon be introduced to facilitate women with safe and dignified transportation.
He further said that development work on water supply schemes, roads and other infrastructure projects is progressing rapidly throughout Sindh. Referring to political opponents, he said some parties form alliances before elections but continue to face rejection from the public.
