A joint operation conducted by the District City Police and the Civil Intelligence Agency has led to the arrest of notorious drug kingpin Anmol, also known as Pinky.

Officials said Pinky had allegedly been operating a large-scale drug supply network across Karachi and was wanted in multiple criminal cases. Pinky had been absconding and was considered one of the city’s most wanted suspects, facing around 10 cases.

During the operation, police recovered a pistol with ammunition, cocaine, chemicals, and other narcotics allegedly worth millions of rupees. Authorities claimed the suspect had established an organised network that supplied cocaine and other dangerous drugs, particularly in upscale areas, including Clifton and DHA, and other parts of the city.

Police claimed that the network relied on specific delivery riders for online drug distribution and even used female riders to avoid attracting attention from law enforcement agencies (LEAs).

They claimed that students and several influential individuals were among the alleged buyers. The suspect reportedly generated daily sales worth hundreds of thousands of rupees through various methods.

Authorities confirmed that cases have been registered against the suspect, while further investigation is under way to uncover the full scope of the network and identify others involved. Meanwhile, the matter took another turn after reports surfaced regarding alleged special treatment given to the suspect during a court appearance. Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar took notice of claims that Pinky was presented in court with unnecessary protocol.

Lanjar sought a report from Karachi police chief Azad Khan and ordered a transparent inquiry into the matter. He asked how such protocol was allowed, and sought explanation for the actions of the officials involved.

“No criminal is above the law, and everyone must be treated equally under legal procedures,” he said, stressing that misuse of authority would not be tolerated. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against any officers found responsible, stressing that police uniforms represent public trust, and any negligence damaging the reputation of LEAs would face consequences.

Addl IG Khan also took notice of reports that the suspect had allegedly been produced in court without handcuffs. A report was sought from the South Zone police chief, and an inquiry was launched to determine if the SOP and legal requirements had been violated.

Khan later suspended the Garden police station SIO (Inspector Zafar Iqbal), SHO (Sub-Inspector Muhammad Hanif Sial) and investigation officer (SI Saeed Ahmed). He appointed the District South police chief as the inquiry officer, seeking a detailed inquiry report within three days.

An investigation team has also been formed. It will be led by the District City Investigation SP, and comprises DSP Imtiaz Hussain, DSP Asif Munawar, Inspector Ghaus Alam, Waheed Qureshi and Masala Khan. They are to submit a detailed report within 15 days. A special team comprising the SSP South and City, and the SSP SIU has also been formed under the supervision of the DIG South to ensure a transparent investigation. Khan has made it clear that violation of law, rules and SOP would not be tolerated under any circumstances, and indiscriminate action would be taken against the officers involved in negligence or irresponsible behaviour.

SSP City District Syed Ali Hassan also ordered suspension of two lady constables of the Garden police station – Misbah Khan and Kainat -- related to the Pinky case. According to the FIR registered against Pinky, SIP Ghazi Bashir Ahmed Khan, posted at the Garden police station, along with ASI Safdar Javed, PC Zameer Ali and PC Zohaib, was patrolling the area.

At 2:15am on May 12, on Ghulam Hussain Qasim Road, near Jilani Masjid, Garden West, a special informant stopped the mobile and informed of drug dealer Chaki being present in a flat near Faqiri Masjid, Garden West, and preparing and selling drugs.

The SIP informed the SHO, and called the duty officer and summoned lady ASI Maqtar Waseem and lady PC Aiman Begum, and private witness Yasir Muhammad Hussain. At 2:35am, he reached the said flat and knocked on the door. A woman opened the door and gave her name as Anmol Bakhsh, alias Pinky. When the witnesses entered the flat, the lady ASI and the lady PC were admitted. No one else was present.

The following items were recovered, the weight of which was also recorded digitally: (1) A steel plate with a spoon, in which the prepared drug was kept, weighing 1.24kg; (2) Five capsules in a plastic bag, one of which was cut and checked, and it also contained cocaine, totalling 300g.

A video recording of the seizure and arrest was made with PC Zameer Ali’s phone and saved on a USB device. A case of cocaine has been registered against the suspect. A case of arms and ammunition is being registered separately against the suspect.

Sent to jail

A judicial magistrate on Tuesday sent an alleged drug lord to jail in two cases pertaining to recovery of narcotics and an unlicensed weapon.

Investigating officer Saeed Ahmed produced suspect Anmol alias Pinki before the judicial magistrate (South) and sought her two-week physical remand for interrogation. A video showing her walking in the court’s corridor without handcuffs and wearing sunglasses with a water bottle in her hand later went viral on social media.

The IO informed the magistrate that the suspect was arrested from a flat in the Garden area early Tuesday morning. He said one steel tray containing prepared narcotic substance “cocaine,” weighing 1,240 grams, 15 capsules of cocaine weighing 300 grams, 16 packets of baking powder, and other drugs including Ephedrine Hydrochloride, Ketamine Hydrochloride, and Cocaine Hydrochloride were recovered from the flat.

The police officer said an unlicensed 9mm pistol was also recovered from the place. He said the suspect is required to be interrogated about the alleged recovery of the drugs and weapon, the source of the drugs, and for completion of other legal formalities, including checking her criminal record, pleading with the court to remand her in police custody.

However, the court turned down the police’s plea for physical remand of the suspect and sent her instead to jail on judicial remand until May 25 with a direction to the IO to submit an interim charge-sheet against her within the stipulated time.
