Immigration authorities of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) at Jinnah International Airport foiled an attempt on Friday by a woman to travel abroad using a fake marriage certificate and offloaded her during immigration clearance.
FIA officials said the passenger, who was travelling to Oman, came under suspicion during the immigration process after officials found discrepancies in the documents she presented. During questioning, contradictions emerged in her statements, prompting immigration officials to conduct a detailed interview.
The woman later admitted that she was not legally married and confessed that the marriage certificate submitted to obtain an Oman Relative Joining Visa was fake. Investigators revealed that the forged documents had allegedly been arranged through an agent in an attempt to facilitate overseas travel.
FIA officials took into custody the fake marriage certificate, Oman ID card and other suspicious documents recovered from the passenger. Authorities also seized the woman’s mobile phone and transferred all records to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle (AHTC) Karachi for further investigation.
The spokesperson said the FIA had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against forgery and fraudulent practices related to international travel. He added that strict action was being taken against human trafficking groups and agents involved in preparing fake documents for citizens seeking to travel abroad illegally.
