ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Gilgit-Baltistan and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUIF) Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday held an important consultative meeting in Gilgit to discuss mutual cooperation, a joint political strategy and the possibility of an electoral alliance for the 2026 Gilgit-Baltistan elections.
The meeting was attended by the provincial leadership of both the parties, who exchanged views on the prevailing political situation, transparency in elections, promotion of democratic values and a joint struggle for addressing public issues.
The discussions were held in a cordial and positive atmosphere, where leaders of both the sides expressed their commitment to political harmony, mutual understanding and cooperation in the larger public interest.
Both the parties agreed that final decisions regarding electoral cooperation and alliance arrangements would be made after further consultations between the central leaderships of PPP and JUIF in Islamabad.
The two sides also agreed to play a joint role in ensuring democratic norms, a fair political environment and protection of the people’s right to vote during the Gilgit-Baltistan elections.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of mutual support in constituencies where political understanding and cooperation could be developed in order to strengthen democratic and pro-people political forces.
The provincial leadership of PPP Gilgit-Baltistan and JUIF Gilgit-Baltistan reaffirmed their commitment to political stability in the region, promotion of democratic traditions and protection of public rights.
Describing the progress on a possible electoral alliance as positive, the participants said important decisions are expected to be formally announced after further consultations between the central leaderships of the two parties in Islamabad in the coming days.
