ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s power distribution companies will begin disclosing the exact amount of government electricity subsidy provided to eligible consumers on monthly bills, as the authorities move to improve transparency and ensure relief reaches low-income households.
The Power Division said electricity bills will now carry a dedicated subsidy breakdown alongside a QR code, allowing consumers to register through an online link to continue receiving government support. Officials said the initiative is aimed at protecting subsidies for deserving consumers and preventing misuse of taxpayer-funded relief.
The ministry clarified that the move does not signal the withdrawal of electricity subsidies, stressing that support for poor and middle-income households remains a top government priority. Instead, the registration mechanism is intended to ensure that subsidies are distributed fairly and efficiently to families with lower electricity consumption.
The division urged to complete registration through the QR code at the earliest to avoid any disruption in future subsidy eligibility. Authorities also advised customers facing billing errors or technical issues to contact their respective power distribution company helplines.
