The teachers association of Abdul Haq Campus of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (Fuuast) has demanded that salaries, house ceiling dues and pension arrears be paid immediately from the recently released Rs37.6 million federal grant as well as from the billions of rupees available in the university’s accounts.
In a letter issued by the association, the administration’s decision to impose a 20 per cent cut in the house ceiling allowance was termed unconstitutional, and the teachers demanded withdrawal of the relevant notification.
The association stated that the figures submitted before the Federal Ombudsman itself showed that the university possessed more than Rs1 billion in pension and GP fund accounts. Despite the availability of funds, it said, retired teachers and employees were being deprived of their pension and post-retirement dues, which amounted to economic exploitation.
In its unanimous declaration, the Abdul Haq campus teachers association urged the registrar to ensure immediate payment of outstanding house ceiling claims of teachers and employees on a priority basis from the available funds. The letter warned that the growing unrest among teachers over the non-payment of salaries, house ceiling allowances and pension arrears could lead to a major protest movement
