Karachi’s missing libraries

Karachi is the largest city of Pakistan, its economic hub and home to over 20 million people. And yet, a metropolitan city of this scale has a shockingly low number of functional libraries. A city that fuels the country’s industry, trade and education cannot afford to neglect spaces that fuel the mind.

Students, researchers and citizens rely on libraries for books, quiet study areas and internet access they may not have at home. I request the authorities and civil society to revive old libraries, allocate funds for new libraries, extend timings to 10 PM and digitise catalogues so books are easier to find.
