PESHAWAR: The legal fraternity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday expressed grief and anger over the killing of renowned religious scholar Maulana Muhammad Idrees in Charsadda and termed the incident an attack on the peace and stability in the province.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, Peshawar High Court Bar Association, and District Bar Association, Peshawar, demanded a thorough inquiry into the tragedy and the arrest of those involved in the heinous crime.

KP Bar Council vice chairman Asfandyar Khan, PHC Bar Association president Aminur Rehman, and District Bar president Qaiser Zaman said that the murder of a prominent religious scholar was an attack on the peace and stability of society as a whole.

The KP Bar Council extended condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family, associates, and students of Maulana Muhammad Idrees. They urged security agencies and the provincial government to swiftly arrest the terrorists involved in the attack and their facilitators.

They called for a transparent investigation into the incident and strict punishment for those responsible. They noted that for some time in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, religious scholars, lawyers, police, and innocent citizens had been systematically targeted, creating the impression that state institutions were failing to protect lives and property.

The government and security agencies, they stressed, must take indiscriminate action against terrorist elements.According to the Bar Council, the complete eradication of terrorism was the need of the hour.

The lawyers’ representatives described the killing of the scholar as a major tragedy, noting that terrorist incidents were occurring frequently, with scholars, innocent, and patriotic citizens being targeted.
