Sindh Police hockey team to be restored

KARACHI: IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho has directed the restoration of the Sindh Police hockey team and announced central contracts for talented players to support the revival of the national game.

The decision was taken in a meeting attended by senior Sindh Police officials and Karachi Hockey Association (KHA) representatives. A KHA delegation, led by Member National Assembly and President of the KHA Women’s Wing Syeda Shehla Raza, met Inspector General Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho and AIG Traffic Sindh and Additional Inspector General Training/Operations Iqbal Dara.

It was also decided that the IG Sindh Police Hockey Championship, an important domestic hockey event, will soon be revived and organized in the near future. AIG Iqbal Dara assured full cooperation in restoring the Sindh Police hockey team, stating that the Traffic Police and Training Wing will work with KHA to train players.

Following the meeting, the KHA delegation also met Chairman Sindh Police Sports Board and DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah. The delegation included former PHF Secretary Haider Hussain, Olympian Iftikhar Syed, KHA Chairman Gulfaraz Khan, Senior Vice Presidents Ijazuddin and Dr Majid, and Joint Secretary Javed Iqbal.

DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah said that, on the directives of IG Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho, the Sindh Police Sports Board will play its full role in reviving the national game. He added that the IG Sindh Police Hockey Championship will be organized soon, with teams from all divisions of Sindh, along with the Police team, participating. He further said that players showing outstanding performance in the championship will be awarded central contracts.
