Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday forecast above-normal rainfall in many parts of the country and warmer-than-usual temperatures nationwide during the current month.
According to the PMD's monthly outlook for May 2026, wet conditions are expected to persist during the month, with the strongest rainfall anomalies likely in the northern half of the country, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and northern Balochistan.
The department said southern parts of the country, including Sindh, southern Punjab and Balochistan, were also expected to receive slightly above-normal rainfall during the month, though the intensity was likely to weaken from north to south. For temperatures, the outlook showed above-normal conditions across Pakistan, with the highest departures expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK and northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The PMD said most forecast models agreed on a higher probability of above-normal rainfall in northern and northwestern Pakistan, while central Punjab, southern Sindh and southwestern Balochistan were more likely to see near-normal rainfall.
