Islamabad: In a landmark step toward transforming education in the country, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with international nonprofit RIGHT TO PLAY to integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) into classrooms nationwide, promoting the mental, physical, social and emotional well-being of students.
Officials insisted that the strategic partnership, in collaboration with the regulator Federal Directorate of Education, underscored the government’s commitment to fostering holistic student development beyond traditional academic learning.
They said the initiative would introduce 25 specialised SEL-based lesson plans per grade level, developed using Right to Play’s globally recognised methodology. The officials said those lessons would be implemented throughout the academic year to support the development of well-rounded learners.
They said comprehensive professional development programs would equip educators with modern social-emotional teaching techniques, enabling them to create inclusive and supportive classroom environments for every child and self-confidence among students.
The officials said schools would also receive sports kits designed to use play as a tool for building resilience, teamwork and leadership. They insisted that the initiative established a sustainable framework in which emotional intelligence was valued alongside academic achievement, preparing students to succeed in all aspects of life.
The officials emphasised that investing in children’s emotional and social skills was essential for building a more empathetic, resilient and progressive Pakistan. They said the collaboration marked a significant milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to modernise the education system and ensure inclusive, student-centered learning across the country.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Federal Minister for Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, along with senior representatives from MoFEPT, FDE, and Right to Play.
