RAHIM YAR KHAN: A deadly outbreak of measles has emerged in the suburban village of Muradpur Sanghi, near Hakeem Muhammad Abdullah Awan Town, claiming the lives of at least nine children and leaving more than 50 others affected.
According to residents, the outbreak has been ongoing for several days and has spread rapidly among children in the area. Among the deceased are two brothers — three-year-old Nadeem Zahid and five-month-old Faheem Zahid — along with Maimuna (2), Ishrat Fatima (2), Haseena (2), Sakina (3), Amna (6) and Fiza Afzal (6).
They allege that despite the worsening situation, the Health Department failed to take timely action, leading to preventable deaths. Families say around 57 children are currently suffering from measles symptom.
After the issue surfaced in the media, the deputy commissioner sought an immediate report from district health authorities. However, CEO Health Dr Babar initially denied any confirmed measles cases, stating that no such patients had been reported at government hospitals.
The residents rejected the official stance, confirming the outbreak and fatalities while accusing authorities of negligence and underreporting.
