Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has outlined an ambitious plan to generate and distribute affordable electricity through a provincial transmission and distribution framework, aiming to provide relief to domestic consumers and boost industrial growth across the province.
He shared this vision while meeting the Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, Maja Dyrberg Mortensen, at the CM House on Friday where both sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, investment opportunities, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability.
The CM said the Sindh government was actively working on projects to produce low-cost electricity and deliver it efficiently through its own transmission company. “Our objective is to ensure affordable electricity for households and industry alike by improving generation efficiency and reducing line losses,” he said, adding that cheaper power would directly translate into public relief and enhanced economic activity.
Shah emphasised that Sindh was keen to play a proactive role not only in power generation but also in electricity distribution, particularly to ensure that underserved and industrial areas received uninterrupted and cost-effective electricity.
Highlighting the province’s renewable energy potential, the CM said Sindh possessed vast opportunities in wind energy, especially along its coastal belt. He noted that the development of the wind corridor and associated projects could transform Sindh into a regional hub for clean energy.
“The Sindh government is fully committed to promoting renewable energy and creating an enabling environment for investors,” he said, inviting Danish companies to explore opportunities in wind power and other green energy initiatives.
The Danish ambassador expressed interest in Sindh’s renewable energy sector, particularly wind energy, and reiterated Denmark’s commitment to supporting environmentally sustainable projects. She noted that collaboration in green energy could open new avenues for investment and strengthen economic ties between the two sides.
The meeting also focused on coastal development with the CM highlighting the strategic importance of the Keti Bandar port. He said the Sindh government had planned to develop the historic port area into a modern deep-sea port to ease pressure on Karachi’s existing ports and unlock new economic opportunities.
The Danish ambassador acknowledged the potential of Keti Bandar and said its development could significantly enhance regional trade and connectivity. Both sides agreed to explore new avenues of cooperation in energy, infrastructure, and investment, while reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Denmark relations. They also exchanged congratulations on 75 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
