PESHAWAR: A delegation of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) visited the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare Commission (KPCPWC) on Friday to review ongoing child protection initiatives and enhance collaboration for strengthening child protection systems in the province.

A press release said the delegation, comprising Jennifer Melton, Chief Child Protection UNICEF Pakistan, and Bushra Ajmal, Head of Child Protection UNICEF Peshawar, held engagements in the provincial capital.

The visit commenced with a meeting with the Secretary Social Welfare Department, Sharif Hussain, where discussions focused on improving coordination mechanisms, strengthening system-level responses, and advancing joint programming in the child protection sector.

Later, the delegation visited Badizai Village Council, where a community meeting was organized for the formation of Community-Based Child Protection Committees under the Child Friendly Communities Initiatives, a UNICEF-supported programme.

Community members, including adolescents, attended the session, highlighting the importance of local ownership and community structures in ensuring child safety.Subsequently, the delegation visited the KPCPWC office, where Additional Chief Ijaz Muhammad Khan delivered a comprehensive briefing on key achievements, ongoing interventions, and field-level progress across the province. The briefing outlined operational challenges and areas requiring further technical support.
