PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Thursday reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to expanding ongoing social welfare initiatives across the province.
He expressed these views while addressing the inauguration ceremony of district-level “Status of Women” Committees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where he attended as the chief guest.The event was attended by Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Assembly Surriya Bibi, Secretary Social Welfare Department Sharif Hussain, Chairperson of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women Dr. Samira Shams, district officials, newly nominated chairpersons of the district committees, and other stakeholders.
Formal notifications were issued for the appointment of chairpersons of the Status of Women Committees established across 26 districts of the province.Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister described the initiative as a significant step toward safeguarding women’s rights and promoting their welfare.
He said the provincial government is undertaking targeted measures to strengthen and expand key social protection interventions, including Darul Amans, shelter homes, the “Koi Bhoka Na Soy” initiative, Ehsaas Kafalat, and other welfare programmes to ensure improved outreach and effectiveness.
The chief minister said that “Zamung Kor” holds a special place in his priorities, describing it as a model institution dedicated to the care, education, and rehabilitation of vulnerable children.
He directed the Social Welfare Department to take concrete and actionable steps to expand the scope and impact of ongoing welfare initiatives, assuring full governmental support in this regard.
Congratulating the newly nominated chairpersons, he urged them to discharge their responsibilities with diligence and integrity, and to play an active role in protecting and promoting women’s rights at the grassroots level.
Sohail Afridi said that women have consistently played a vital role in the social and economic development of society, and reiterated the government’s resolve to further empower them by enhancing their access to opportunities and institutional support.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enabling women to effectively confront emerging challenges and contribute more meaningfully to the overall progress and prosperity of society.
