LAHORE: Multan Sultans captain Ashton Turner was clear in his views after their elimination from Pakistan Super League, saying they lost the focus in the game and were defeated while playing terribly.
Turner admitted his side had lost momentum at a crucial stage of the tournament and ended their campaign playing some of their “worst cricket.” Turner acknowledged that Multan had been in a strong position earlier in the season, winning six of their first eight matches and looking like serious contenders.
“We had won six out of eight games and were feeling good about how we were playing a complete game. The tide turned quickly on us and we have unfortunately ended our campaign with some of our worst cricket,” he said.
Reflecting on the loss to Hyderabad Kingsmen in the eliminator, Turner pointed to the early collapse as decisive. “The stats would suggest that if you lose that many wickets in the powerplay you rarely win,” he admitted. Multan’s batting order crumbled inside the first six overs, leaving them unable to recover despite Shan Masood’s fighting half-century.
Despite the disappointment of falling short, Turner praised the overall experience of playing in Pakistan and the camaraderie within the squad. “I am disappointed with how it has finished but everyone in our dressing room generally had a smile on their face and we have had a great time. We have loved being here in Pakistan. The overseas cohort assimilated with a great group of local players, coaches, and support staff,” he said.
