The Higher Secondary School (HSC) annual examinations 2026 began on Wednesday. Officials said that more than 160,000 students are taking the exams at 130 centres in the morning shift and 42 in the afternoon shift, with 30 of the centres set up at private colleges.
Twenty-seven super vigilance committees have been formed, while 21 centres have been declared sensitive. Digital attendance and video monitoring of every stage will be ensured. Phones and other electronic devices have been banned at the exam centres, while strict action will be taken against violators, as stringent monitoring continues against paper leaks and the copy mafia.
Meanwhile, a video clip has been circulating on social media that allegedly showssecurity guards of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) and police officials beating up some young men.
The BIEK spokesperson rejected the reports claiming that board officials and employees attacked students. Terming them baseless, fabricated and misleading, the spokesperson clarified that such claims have no connection with reality and are merely a malicious attempt to damage the BIEK’s reputation.
According to the spokesperson, the deadline for submitting online exam forms for the 2026 annual examinations has already passed, but agents and other external elements were attempting to forcibly submit forms.
When BIEK authorities refused to accept these forms, the said elements and agents attacked the board staff, resulting in serious injuries to several officers and employees. The BIEK condemned the incident and urged the higher authorities, particularly the district administration and law enforcement agencies, to ensure foolproof security arrangements at the board and exam centres. The board administration said that an application has been submitted to police to register a case against the agents.
