The Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) AS Level Mathematics paper (Pure Mathematics 1 – 9707) was allegedly leaked ahead of its scheduled examination in Pakistan on Wednesday, triggering concern among students and parents.
Several candidates who appeared in the AS Level exam said that the question paper had circulated on social media late on Tuesday night. They claimed that the same paper appeared in the examination when they reached their centres the following day.
According to sources, the paper along with its solutions surfaced on the social media platform Reddit between Tuesday and Wednesday night, hours before the exam, which was held on Wednesday afternoon in Pakistan and across the region. Initially, an unsolved version of the paper was shared, followed later by a solved version.
Incidents of paper leaks in O and A Level examinations have been reported in Pakistan over the past several years. In the past, Cambridge has acknowledged that portions of papers in subjects such as mathematics, computer science and physics had appeared on social media prior to exams.
While both the British Council and Cambridge Assessment International Education have conducted inquiries into such incidents, the findings of these investigations have not been made public, nor have those responsible been identified, leading to anxiety among students and raising questions over the credibility of the examination system.
Responding to the latest development, a spokesperson for CAIE said: “We are aware of news about a reported leak of a question paper. We investigate such reports thoroughly and will provide more information to centres, if required, during or after the end of timetabled exams for the June 2026 series.”
