PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed said on Wednesday the Safe City project was playing a key role in preventing terrorism and helping trace criminal activities.

The police chief, in a statement, said as part of the Safe City initiative, panic buttons have been installed at 68 locations across Peshawar to ensure timely assistance to citizens in any emergency.

These panic buttons are equipped with audio and video communication features and are directly connected to the Safe City Headquarters.

The IGP said that in case of an emergency, pressing the panic button enables police to respond immediately without delay. He added that the system is particularly aimed at enhancing safety for students, women and people in crowded public places.

Highlighting public response, the police chief said the initiative had received encouraging feedback from citizens and plans were underway to expand the panic button facility to other cities in the province.
