BANNU: A terrorist was killed and six assailants were injured as police foiled an attack on a checkpost, officials said on Wednesday.

Cops said a number of terrorists, equipped with heavy weapons, attacked the Mazanga checkpost at around midnight. The police personnel present at the post retaliated. An exchange of fire continued until morning.

Police said five terrorists were also reportedly injured during the attack.Constable Fareedullah sustained minor injuries and was shifted to the hospital for medical treatment.Taking advantage of the darkness, the terrorists fled the scene, taking their dead and injured accomplices along. One body was recovered from the scene, while the search for additional bodies was going on.

Police seized magazines, hand grenades, bandoliers, a ladder, shoes, a shawl, and other items from the site. Bannu, District Police Officer Yasir Afridi, along with Deputy Superintendent of Police Arshad Khan.
