Islamabad: Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani held a meeting with vice chancellors of various universities, where matters related to higher education, academic excellence and institutional development came under discussion.

The visitors included Prof. Dr Muhammad Ali, VC, University of the Punjab, Prof. Dr. Arshad Ali, VC, Multan University of Science and Technology and Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani, VC, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore.

Gilani underscored the critical role of universities as engines of intellectual growth, innovation, and national development. He said that higher education institutions must go beyond traditional learning and focus on research, critical thinking, and skills development to prepare students for the challenges of a rapidly evolving global landscape.

The vice chancellors shared their perspectives on key issues including curriculum modernization, faculty development, research funding, and industry-academia linkages. They emphasised the need for greater collaboration among universities and stronger partnerships with the public and private sectors to enhance employability and innovation.

Gilani stressed the importance of aligning academic programs with market needs and national priorities. He noted that universities must play a proactive role in addressing socio-economic challenges, promoting entrepreneurship, and fostering a culture of tolerance, inclusivity, and civic responsibility among students. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting higher education institutions in achieving excellence and international competitiveness.
