BATKHELA: An alleged robber was killed and three others, including a cop, sustained injuries in an exchange of fire with the Lower Dir police on the Swat Expressway on Monday.
According to police sources, Chakdara police had earlier arrested two key accused, Gohar, a resident of Faqirabad in Chakdara and Rahimullah, a resident of Chakdara.
During interrogation, they disclosed the names of two more accomplices, Javed and Usman, who were reportedly residing in Rawalpindi.Acting on a tip-off that the accused were entering via the Alah Dhand Dheri Interchange on the Swat Expressway, the Chakdara police barricaded the road and when the cops signalled a vehicle bearing registration number BHN-297, the inmates opened indiscriminate fire on the police, prompting a retaliatory response.
During the exchange of fire, Constable Arsalan of the narcotics unit and accused Javed and Usman and Javed’s minor daughter sustained injuries.
All injured were shifted to the hospital in Chakdara, where Javed later succumbed to his injuries.The injured suspect Usman and the child were later referred to Swat for further treatment.
