Following the directives from Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has taken a step to improve the city’s water supply system by restoring operations at the Dhabeji pumping station.

Officials said the water supply from the K-3 pumping house at Dhabeji has resumed after technical restoration work. With four pumps now operational, the system has added nearly 100 million gallons per day (MGD) back into Karachi’s distribution network, easing pressure on the city’s water supply.

KWSC officials said Karachi’s total daily water demand stands at around 650 MGD, while current supply has reached approximately 500 MGD. This still leaves a shortfall of about 150 MGD, though authorities say recent improvements have helped reduce the gap.

The KWSC spokesperson said that out of 21 pumps at the Dhabeji system, 16 are now functioning normally, while five remain temporarily shut down for necessary maintenance and technical upgrades. These repairs are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the system’s long-term efficiency and reliability.

In addition to Dhabeji, the Hub pumping station is also continuing to supply water to Karachi without interruption, further supporting the city’s distribution network. KWSC officials confirmed that water supply has also been restored in several affected areas, including North Karachi and Surjani Town, where residents had recently faced disruptions and low pressure.

It was further stated that restoration work is being carried out in phases, and more affected areas will see improved supply as remaining technical issues are resolved. Authorities expressed confidence that full stabilization of the system will help ensure more consistent and uninterrupted water supply across the city in the coming days.

The KWSC) has extended the payment deadline for water and sewerage bills for the month of April. According to the corporation’s official, the new deadline for all users has been set as April 28, 2026. The move, officials said, is aimed at providing additional time for residents to settle their dues without facing inconvenience.

The water utility has urged consumers to ensure timely payment of their bills within the stipulated deadline in order to maintain the continued provision of improved and uninterrupted services.

“The decision has been taken to facilitate consumers so they can submit their bills comfortably,” the KWSC spokesperson said, adding that the measure reflects the institution’s commitment to public service and its responsiveness to citizens’ needs.
