LAHORE: The HBL Pakistan Super League 11 reaches its final group-stage fixture as Islamabad United face Multan Sultans at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi. With both sides already assured of playoff spots, this encounter carries immense weight: the winner secures a place in Qualifier 1 against Peshawar Zalmi, while the loser must navigate the tougher path through the eliminator.

Islamabad United currently sit third with 11 points and a strong net run rate of 1.766, while Multan Sultans are second with 12 points and an NRR of 0.450. A win for Islamabad would see them leapfrog Multan into second place. Both teams are desperate to avoid the eliminator route, making this clash a virtual playoff before the playoffs.

Islamabad United has secured five wins from nine matches, including a dominant victory over Hyderabad Kingsmen where they bowled them out for just 80. Their campaign has been boosted by consistent bowling and the form of Sameer Minhas (185 runs at 61.66).

Multan Sultans with six wins from nine, highlighted by big totals and batting depth. Despite a recent loss to Hyderabad Kingsmen in a high-scoring thriller, they remain formidable, with Steven Smith and Sahibzada Farhan in prolific form.

Islamabad hold a narrow historical edge with 10 wins to Multan’s 9 in T20 encounters. However, Multan won their earlier meeting this season on March 28, chasing down 172 with five wickets in hand.

Key reliance for Islamabad United is Shadab Khan with 13 wickets in seven matches; his fitness is crucial for the team’s balance. Sameer Minhas is a standout batter with consecutive fifties. Devon Conway is their reliable opener, who adds stability. And Imad Wasim & Richard Gleeson are their potent new-ball pair.

Multan Sultans on the other hand look towards Steven Smith who has 337 runs this season, including a century. Sahibzada Farhan with 335 runs in his bag, and joint-most sixes in PSL 2026 could turn the tide. Josh Philippe & Shan Masood – provide depth in the top order. And Faisal Akram is a dangerous left-arm wrist spinner, effective in Karachi conditions.

The National Bank Stadium is a batting paradise, with an average first-innings score of 167. Chasing sides have won more matches in average here, making the toss vital. Clear skies and a comfortable 28°C temperature promise uninterrupted play.

This fixture is set to be a thriller, with both teams eyeing the Qualifier 1 spot. Multan’s batting depth and spin options give them a slight edge, but Islamabad’s strong bowling and recent momentum make them dangerous opponents. If Shadab Khan returns, United’s chances improve significantly.
