Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport & Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon said in a statement issued to the media on Tuesday that abolishing the wheat sale limit and the condition of five sacks per acre for farmers is a highly important decision.

Memon pointed out that the provincial government’s move would directly benefit small farmers, enabling them to sell their produce at government centres without any hindrance.

He said that setting the wheat support price at Rs3,500 and fixing the procurement target at one million tonnes reflects the government’s farmer-friendly policies. Instructions to accelerate the wheat procurement campaign and take measures in districts with low procurement will help ensure that the target is achieved, he added.

He also said that providing a fuel subsidy to farmers through the Sindh Bank within a day is a strong example of transparency and efficiency. The timely disbursement of tens of millions of rupees has increased farmers’ confidence, he added.

Memon said that the district administration, assistant commissioners and other officers concerned have been mobilised in the field to ensure that farmers do not face any problems.

Farmers are encouraged to sell their wheat at government procurement centres to receive immediate payment and access government facilities, he added.

The senior minister said the Sindh government would continue to take all possible steps to protect farmers’ interests and ensure food security of the province.
