The Sindh government has taken decisive action over “persistent delays” in Lot-2 of the Red Line bus rapid transit project in Karachi, signalling a firm stance on accountability and timely delivery of key infrastructure.
According to a transport department statement issued to the media on Tuesday, the contract awarded to the CR3-AM Associates joint venture has been terminated due to “continued slow progress, unsatisfactory performance and repeated violations of health, safety and environmental standards”.
The statement reads that the government decision has also taken into account the “prolonged inconvenience faced by Karachi’s residents as a result of the delays”.
A recent visit by a delegation of the Asian Development Bank voiced serious concerns regarding the contractor’s performance, pace of work and non-compliance with occupational safety & health requirements.
Lot-2 of the project covers the corridor from Mosamiyat to Numaish, where development work was found to be below the required standards.
