PESHAWAR: In a continued effort to promote education, the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has achieved another important milestone under the Dassu Hydropower Project (DHPP).

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Seo village for the construction of new buildings for a Government High School and a Government Primary School. The project is estimated to cost Rs640 million.

These educational institutions are being developed under the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) of DHPP, reflecting Wapda’s commitment to providing quality education and fostering the socioeconomic development of local communities.

The proposed institutions will feature modern, spacious classrooms, fully equipped science and computer laboratories, a multipurpose hall, staff rooms, and other essential facilities to ensure a conducive and contemporary learning environment for students.

The ceremony was attended by General Manager DHPP, Ameer Shafiqur Rehman, Deputy Commissioner Upper Kohistan, Azizullah Jan, senior officials of Wapda and the district administration, as well as local elders, political and social representatives, teachers, and students.

It is pertinent to mention that Wapda, through the Dassu Hydropower Project, is implementing a range of sustainable initiatives aimed at socio-economic uplift and local area development.

These include the establishment of computer laboratories, provision of furniture and solar systems to schools, school transportation facilities (pick-and-drop services) for students, and the award of scholarships.

In addition, several projects related to road infrastructure, healthcare development, and other sectors have been completed in the project area, while many others are currently under implementation.

Addressing the gathering, speakers emphasized the pivotal role of education in regional development and appreciated the initiative for introducing modern educational infrastructure in Upper Kohistan.

They expressed confidence that these institutions will help improve literacy rates and create new opportunities for the youth.

The local community warmly welcomed the project, describing it as a milestone that will contribute to long-term development and educational stability in the region.
