MANSEHRA: The Upper Kohistan district administration on Tuesday laid the foundation stones of two schools that were relocated after coming within the reservoir area of the Dasu Hydropower Project (DHPP).
“These educational institutions are being built under the Local Area Development Programme initiated by DHPP to provide quality education and foster the socio-economic development of local communities,” Azizullah Jan, deputy commissioner Upper Kohistan told the groundbreaking ceremony of the schools held in the Seo area of the district.
Officials of WAPDA, the district administration, and local elders were also in attendance.
The DC said that the government high and primary schools in Seo were relocated after falling on land acquired for the Dasu Hydropower Project.
“Under local area development programme, these two educational institutions will not only be relocated but also constructed at a cost of Rs 640 million. More schools, health facilities, and other development projects will also be built for the people of Upper Kohistan,” Jan said and added, “Projects related to health, communication, and education are being executed and completed on a priority basis, as these are the basic needs of the local population,” he added.
The official said that the proposed institutions would feature modern classrooms, fully equipped science and computer laboratories, a multipurpose hall, staff rooms, and other essential facilities to ensure a conducive and contemporary learning environment for students.
Under the local development programme, various initiatives are underway, including the establishment of computer laboratories, the provision of furniture and solar systems to schools, school transportation facilities (pick-and-drop services) for students, and the award of scholarships.
