Rawalpindi : As many as 12 union councils in the district are having Breteau Index from three to seven means larvae of ‘aedes aegypti’, the vector that causes dengue fever, have been found from three per cent to seven per cent of the houses checked in these UCs while another 178 UCs are with Breteau Index below three.
Data collected by ‘The News’ has revealed that to date, larvae of ‘aedes aegypti’ mosquitoes have been found from a total of 5892 houses and 707 spots in the district. The teams of the District Health Authority Rawalpindi have lodged as many as two FIRs so far for violation of standard operating procedures designed by the government for prevention and control of dengue fever in the province. The DHA teams have sealed five premises and issued 132 challans for violating SOPs so far.
The daily report prepared on dengue prevention and control by District Health Authority Rawalpindi on Sunday has revealed that larvae of ‘aedes’ mosquitoes were found from 390 houses and 44 spots in a single day in Potohar Town. The larvae were detected in as many as 51 and 13 houses in Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and Chaklala Cantonment Board areas respectively.
According to details, out of 3091 houses checked on Sunday, as many as 454 were tested positive for dengue vector larvae while of 1139 spots checked, larvae were found at 45 spots. To date, the larvae of dengue vector have been found from a total of 6599 houses and spots.
Studies reveal that the greater number of dengue fever vector, larvae and adult ‘aedes aegypti’ mosquitoes found from houses and spots in the district may cause a severe outbreak of dengue fever in the region.
Health experts say that it is time for both the individuals and the concerned health departments to take preventive measures religiously as the greater the number of larvae and adult mosquitoes, the greater would be the chances of a more severe outbreak of dengue fever in the coming weeks.
