Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on Monday attended the inaugural ceremony of The International School, Pakistan Railway Campus, Karachi along with Sindh Governor Sindh Nehal Hashmi.
In his address, the railways minister expressed gratitude for transforming previously damaged railway schools into improved learning institutions with healthier environments and modern infrastructure.
He noted that well-maintained classrooms and spacious playgrounds were conducive to children’s development. He said students from underprivileged communities were being provided quality education in an advanced, inclusive environment that upheld the policy of non-discrimination.
Abbasi added that the schools were equipped with modern technology, including AI-based learning, and comprehensive facilities to ensure quality education through a public-private partnership model.
He vowed that within 90 days, visible improvements in educational standards would be evident. Reflecting on his visits to 14 railway schools that were previously in a poor condition and effectively non-functional, he highlighted their successful revival with the support of private partners.
The minister emphasised that outsourcing train operations had yielded improved outcomes. Integration of rail track routes across Punjab was under way, he said, adding that the Rohri–Karachi track, which was 50 to 60 years old, was being upgraded on a priority basis.
Abbasi also announced plans to transform Karachi railway stations into smart facilities, featuring Wi-Fi, digitised integrated system and enhanced cleanliness in line with international standards.
He remarked that Pakistan had emerged as a safer nation globally due to the leadership of the prime minister, adding that the country remained committed to playing its role in safeguarding innocent lives. He underscored that while rhetoric was easy, tangible action defined progress, noting that economic development was closely linked with the advancement of the railway sector, which ensured efficient business connectivity.
The Sindh governor stated that children were valuable national assets and deserved recognition on such forums. He highlighted that railways remained the most affordable mode of transport for underprivileged populations, connecting diverse provinces, cultures and communities.
He acknowledged the efforts of the railways minister in advancing a modern railway system in Pakistan and emphasised the importance of women’s participation in education and the workforce to accelerate national progress.
