PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has directed petitioners from Kurram seeking issuance of Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to reapply, and instructed the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to process their cases in accordance with the law.

The case was heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmad and Justice Farah Jamshed.Counsel for the petitioners, Alam Khan Adeenzai, appeared before the court and argued that the petitioners are Pakistani citizens and that their families have long been residing in the country.

He informed the court that the petitioners are currently running a business in Abbottabad, with operations extending to other cities as well. The counsel stated that the petitioners migrated from Kurram to Abbottabad after the 1965 Pakistan-India war, where they established businesses that later expanded to other regions.

He also pointed out that other members of their family already possess CNICs.In its written judgment, the court noted that while the petitioners claim to be Pakistani citizens and eligible for identity documents, NADRA maintained that they had never formally applied for CNICs and had not provided any tracking ID to support their claim.

The court observed that the petitioners failed to satisfy the court about when they had applied for CNICs. It, therefore, directed them to submit fresh applications to NADRA.The authority was instructed to process the applications in accordance with the law and issue tokens.
