LAHORE: The yesterday’s race meeting in Lahore produced a mix of expected triumphs and stunning upsets, with favourites reclaiming their dominance in the prestigious cup races while outsiders delivered shocks in other contests.

For the first time in a long while, all three major cup races went to the favourites. Chasing Eden lived up to expectations by clinching the April Cup, while Jim And Tonic confirmed his status as “king of the turf” with a flawless run in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, and Brutus delivered a masterclass in the stretch to secure the Champion Mile Stake Cup.

Other favourites also had their moment, with Singhar breaking through for a first career win in Race 1. However, the day was far from predictable, as Piyari, Queen of Pharoah, and Tomorrow Land stunned the crowd with upset victories, while a fluke entry, Fakhr-e-Panjgaran, surprised all by staying upfront in Race 3.

In the opening race, Favourite Singhar claimed a maiden win, with Latin Storm and Princess Arooj surprising in second and third. Contrary to expectations in race 2, Piyari upset favourite Construct Craft, while Zaman Sahib finished third unexpectedly.

Similarly, race 3 too had a surprise with fluke runner Fakhr-e-Panjgaran led from the front; Ammara’s Dream placed second as expected, with Seven Star a surprise third. In the featured Race 4 (April Cup), favourite Chasing Eden stormed railside to victory. Fluke Ghuroor was second, and Amanah One third.

In the fifth race, Queen of Pharoah shocked the field, beating favourite Crown Pharoah into a placing, while fluke Khokhar One took third. Normalcy was also seen in the sixth race (Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup) as Favourite Jim And Tonic dominated from start to finish, with Winx and Sardar surprising in second and third.

The seventh race (Champion Mile Stake Cup) too had Favourite Brutus winning convincingly, Aitchisonian held on for second, and fluke Coach House Candy was third. In the final race, Tomorrow Land surged mid-pack to stun the finale, with fluke New York City second and Waqat third.

The meeting highlighted the strength of established favourites in high-profile cup races, while also underlining the unpredictability of turf racing, where flukes and outsiders can still steal the spotlight. The victories of Jim And Tonic and Brutus reaffirmed their dominance, while the upset wins added drama and excitement for racing fans.
