Islamabad:A recent joint crackdown by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) and Kohsar Police in the Blue Area has underscored the growing legal and safety risks linked to reckless street stunts by heavy bikers, particularly drifting and high-speed riding in public spaces.
Officials say the operation reflects a decisive shift in enforcement policy, moving away from warnings to strict action, including immediate vehicle impoundment and registration of criminal cases. The move is aimed at curbing dangerous driving practices that pose a serious threat to public safety.
Authorities have identified areas such as F-11 Markaz and adjoining sectors as hotspots for speedsters and heavy bikers. With increased surveillance in these densely populated commercial and residential zones, law enforcement agencies are now prioritising swift intervention against violations.
The coordinated action between traffic police and local police stations indicates a more strategic approach, designed to prevent offenders from evading arrest. Police officials warn that engaging in activities such as drifting or high-speed racing on public roads can result not only in accidents but also in lasting legal consequences, including a permanent criminal record.
According to the police spokesperson, impounded vehicles may face prolonged legal procedures, making their release both financially and administratively challenging, particularly in cases involving modified cars or motorcycles.
The authorities further clarified that the term “dangerous drifting” is being broadly applied to include any form of stunt or driving behaviour that endangers public safety. Even brief loss of control or excessive speeding may lead to serious charges, depending on the situation.
Motorists and biking enthusiasts have been urged to exercise responsibility and avoid risky activities on public roads.
