Islamabad:Amid uncertainty over whether educational institutions will hold in-person classes today (Monday) as US Vice President JD Vance is expected to arrive in Islamabad for Middle East peace talks, several universities in the capital city and adjoining Rawalpindi have shifted to online learning and revised their exam schedules.
They cited security and administrative concerns as the reason for the move. According to a notification issued by the International Islamic University Islamabad, all classes will be conducted online from April 20 to 24, while midterm examinations scheduled for April 20 and 21 have been postponed.
The university also introduced a four-day working week, from Monday to Thursday, for non-teaching staff. Likewise, 50 percent of employees will be allowed to work from home until April 30.
Meanwhile, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (popularly known as Barani University) has announced that all classes will be held online until April 26, and its main campus will remain closed for one week. Similarly, Rawalpindi Medical University has postponed all scheduled examinations for Allied Health Sciences students. It said the decision was taken to facilitate students amid the prevailing uncertainty and that new dates for the exams would be announced later.
