LAHORE : Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will field over 6,500 candidates across over 500 union councils of local body elections in Lahore.

This was revealed in a meeting here on Saturday. The Executive Committee of Pakistan Peoples Party Lahore held a meeting presided over by General Secretary Dr Ayesha Shaukat.

The meeting was convened on the directives of PPP Lahore President Faisal Mir and was attended by Vice President Lahore Aamir Nasir Butt, Political and Media Adviser Agha Taqi Shah, and Finance Secretary Asghar Bhatti.

Convener of the PPP Lahore Organising Committee, Majeed Ghouri, briefed participants in detail on the party's future course of action. He informed the meeting that, in accordance with the Punjab government's notification, the official announcement of Lahore's new local body union councils would be made on May 27, 2026, after which an objection period would commence. He clarified that no more than five percent of the union councils were expected to undergo any changes throughout this process. Majeed Ghouri further informed the meeting that PPP Lahore would announce the organisational structure for zones and union councils across all ten towns starting May 26, 2026, without waiting for official government dates.

He stated that each town was expected to be divided into five zones, with each town potentially comprising fifty union councils. All town organisations have been directed to submit a list of 825 men and women for fifteen positions each across the anticipated five zones and fifty union councils of their respective towns by April 30, 2026.

The Convener of the Organising Committee announced that in the upcoming local body elections, PPP would field a thirteen-member panel in every union council. Nine seats would be contested through direct election tickets, while four indirect tickets would be issued for youth, women, minorities, and workers. Accordingly, PPP Lahore intends to field more than 6,500 candidates across over 500 union councils in the local body elections.
