LAHORE: Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan issued instructions to the district administration and irrigation department regarding completion of desilting operations before monsoon season. She issued these directions while chairing a divisional meeting on Friday.
The meeting, attended by deputy commissioners and chief engineer irrigation, was convened to review monsoon preparations, de-silting of drains, and cleaning of storm water drains.
Commissioner Lahore said that the irrigation department should conduct de-silting operations of its drains along with the district administrative officers and de-silting operations in Lahore region must be completed within two weeks under the supervision of the chief engineer irrigation.
She said that the cleaning and encroachment removal operations should be carried out in the passages of the sewers. She directed the officers concerned to ensure the availability of machinery in the flood-hit areas.
She said that to deal with the urban flooding situation, special focus must be given to all the sewerage and drains of the cities.
Each district should keep in touch with the Meteorological Department at all times and complete their essential arrangements. She warned that every department including the district administration and irrigation department will be accountable according to its responsibility.
Commissioner Lahore said that de-silting operations are the biggest goal of the entire division regarding monsoon arrangements.
There are a total of 122 drains in Lahore, Sheikhupura, and Kasur where de-silting operations are underway. She said that only through effective pre-monsoon measures, we can deal with the challenges in the upcoming situation. She directed the officers concerned to complete development works in every tehsil as per given timelines.
The meeting was attended by DC Lahore Capt (retd) Ali Ejaz, Additional Commissioner Arshad Bhatti, DC Sheikhupura Shahid Imran Marth, DC Nankana Rao Taslim Akhtar, DC Kasur Asif Raza, Chief Engineer Rashid Minhas, Chief Engineer Faisalabad Region Rashid Mehmood, ACG Wajiha Samreen and other officers.
