The Sindh High Court has constituted committee to examine promotion cases of revenue officers and directed it to submit its report within 20 days.

The direction came on a petition of revenue officers seeking promotions in the revenue department. The petitioners submitted that they are Mukhtuarkars in the revenue department and have been deprived of promotions.

They claimed that the initial appointment was made against a quota reserved for Mukhtiarkars to be appointed by way of promotion in the year 2019. The secretary service also filed a report in which it transpired that 22 seats were available to be filled by way of promotion from amongst the Mukhtiarkars.

An SHC’s division bench headed by Justice Mohammad Saleem Jessar observed that the secretary service’s report was not in consonance with the concerns raised by the court in its previous orders.

The secretary services proposed that a committee may be constituted to examine the issues and furnish a report so that grievances of parties may be redressed, a proposal which was agreed by the counsel for the parties. The court constituted a committee headed by senior member Board of Revenue along with two other government officials, and it shall hear and examine the cases of parties.

The court observed that the committee will examine the background of the appointments in grade 17 and will decide the issue within twenty days’ time. It also directed the secretary services to furnish the entire record to the committee, which shall submit its report to this court on or before the next date of hearing.
