Five arrested as FIA busts hawala-hundi network

The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle Karachi has claimed to have busted a major illegal hundi/hawala network operating from the city, officials said on Friday.

According to FIA officials, acting on inquiry No. 48/2026, a raid was conducted at an office located at Flak Niaz Tower near MA Jinnah Road. During the operation, multiple Moinabad Future Mor in Landhi. A friend of the deceased, Rehmat, said the two were riding a motorcycle when they asked him to accompany them, but he did not go and remained in the neighbourhood.

He later received news of their deaths in the accident. An uncle of Mubashir said he was the sole breadwinner of a family of seven siblings, including four brothers and three sisters. The news of their deaths triggered grief and outrage in the area.

Separately, near the Arambagh Park, a motorcycle accident left one person dead and another critically injured. Both were taken to the Civil Hospital Trauma Centre.

The deceased man was identified as 28-year-old Adeel Hussain, son of Ramzan, and the injured as 35-year-old Umar, son of Ramzan. Police confirmed that both were brothers. Arambagh SHO Shah Faisal said the accident occurred due to a collision with a fast-moving bus. According to initial findings, the motorcycle riders first collided with a roadside pushcart and fell onto the road, after which a bus coming from behind ran them over. The bus driver fled the scene. Police later took the bus into custody and arrested its conductor, while a search for the driver is under way.

In another incident in Surjani Town, a teenage boy was killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle near a private shopping centre. The body was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The deceased was identified as 15-year-old Afser, son of Maqsood. Police said the victim was a school student and was killed after being struck by an unidentified speeding vehicle.

In the Garden area, a motorcyclist was fatally struck by a speeding unidentified vehicle near the Garden Jamaat Khana. The body was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi.

The deceased was identified as 58-year-old Mir, son of Siddiq. Rescue officials said the victim died on the spot after being hit by a fast-moving vehicle. Police handed over the body to the family after completing legal formalities. In another incident on Mauripur Road within the jurisdiction of Kalri police station, a speeding dumper hit a motorcycle near Shahnawaz Hotel, leaving two riders critically injured. The injured were identified as Haziq, son of Farid, and Zeeshan, son of Abdul Latif.

They were shifted to the CHK for medical treatment. Police said the dumper driver fled the scene after the accident. The vehicle was taken into custody and shifted to the police station.
