LAHORE: The HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) enters a crucial phase as defending champions Lahore Qalandars face Quetta Gladiators in Match 26 at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi, on Friday (today).

With Lahore looking to break a two-match losing streak and Quetta desperate to revive their playoff hopes, Friday’s clash promises high drama.

Lahore Qalandars, despite early turbulence and the suspension of star opener Fakhar Zaman, remain in the upper half of the table with six points and the tournament’s best Net Run Rate (+1.546). Fakhar’s expected return is a major boost, restoring balance to a batting order that has relied heavily on Mohammad Naeem’s explosive form. Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, already the leading wicket-taker with 10 scalps, will spearhead a pace attack complemented by Mustafizur Rahman and Haris Rauf. Spin options Usama Mir, Sikandar Raza, and Dunith Wellalage add depth to their bowling arsenal.

Quetta Gladiators, meanwhile, are marooned at sixth place with just two points from four matches. Their batting has faltered repeatedly, with over-reliance on skipper Saud Shakeel, who has struck two half-centuries in his last two innings. Hasan Nawaz and Rilee Rossouw have shown flashes of form, but the team needs a collective effort to challenge Lahore’s pace battery. On the bowling front, Abrar Ahmed’s mystery spin and Alzarri Joseph’s raw pace remain Quetta’s best hopes, especially on Karachi’s slower, spin-friendly surface.

The venue itself could play a decisive role. Karachi’s pitches tend to favour spinners, potentially neutralising Lahore’s pace advantage while giving Quetta’s Abrar Ahmed a chance to shine. However, Lahore’s superior squad depth and Fakhar’s return tilt the balance in their favour.

Lahore Qalandars, however, enter the field as favourites with an estimated above average win probability, while Quetta Gladiators hold a certain chance, banking on spin conditions and Saud Shakeel’s form. A par score is expected from 155–175, with Lahore likely to win by 12–20 runs or 5–6 wickets if chasing.
